Health Matters are currently running Health, Education and Awareness programmes in National schools in Dublin.
To date, we have successfully completed these programmes in St Patricks National School, Ballyroan; Loreto Primary School, Rathfarnham; St. Mary’s Boys National School; and Good Shepard National School. They were very well received by students, parents and teaching staff.
The objective of the programme is to encourage an appreciation of physical activity and a healthy lifestyle through the promotion of a positive attitude towards exercise and diet.
According to the Irish Heart Foundation, nearly 20% of the children in Ireland are obese or overweight and this will continue to increase without immediate intervention.
A child that is overweight is twice as likely to grow into an overweight adult.
Health Matters seeks to develop in the student the knowledge and understanding which will enable him/her to make the choice of a healthy lifestyle through physical activity and a balanced diet. This can be achieved by simple and fun exercises and educational classes. On completion of the programme, each student will have individual responsibility for good health along with a sense of well being.
