School Health Education

Health Matters are currently running Health, Education and Awareness programmes in National schools in Dublin.

To date, we have successfully completed these programmes in: St Patricks National School, Ballyroan; Loreto Primary School, Rathfarnham; St. Mary's Boys National School; and Good Shepard National School. They were very well received by students, parents and teaching staff. We have booked in various other schools to take part in this programme in 2016/2017.

The objective of the programme is to encourage an appreciation of physical activity and a healthy lifestyle through the promotion of a positive attitude towards exercise and diet.

According to the Irish Heart Foundation nearly 20% of the children in Ireland are obese or overweight and this will continue to increase without immediate intervention.

A child that is overweight is twice as likely to grow into an overweight adult.

Health Matters seeks to develop in the student the knowledge and understanding which will enable him/her to make the choice of a healthy lifestyle through physical activity and a balanced diet. This can be achieved by simple and fun exercise and educational classes. On completion of the programme each student will have an individual responsibility for good health along with a sense of well being.

I would welcome the opportunity to discuss in more detail with anyone who is interested in bringing this programme to their school.
